Julio Colon

(Professional Counselor Intern)

Greetings, I’m Julio, a dedicated mental health professional driven by a passion for assisting individuals in navigating the complexities of their emotional well-being. Originally hailing from the vibrant city of Las Vegas, I have found solace and inspiration in the natural beauty of Southern Oregon. Armed with a bachelor’s degree in human services from Southern Oregon University, I am currently pursuing a master’s in clinical mental health, deepening my commitment to the field.

Before transitioning to mental health, I proudly served in the US Navy. This experience, coupled with living in diverse geographic locations, has granted me a nuanced understanding and profound respect for the values, beliefs, and norms of individuals from various backgrounds. I approach counseling with curiosity, fostering active exploration of both the client and the family system. In my perspective, the focal point of therapy should always be on meeting the client’s needs and achieving lasting, observable, and positive results.

My approach blends academic knowledge, military experience, and genuine empathy to create a warm and understanding environment for clients to explore and address their mental health concerns. Grounded in the belief that everyone deserves support on their wellness journey, I am dedicated to guiding individuals through challenges, fostering resilience, and promoting positive change. I prioritize the therapeutic relationship, emphasizing honesty and trust as foundational elements. My areas of expertise include PTSD/Trauma, psychopathology, marriage and family therapy, crisis intervention, and substance use disorders. I utilize therapeutic modalities such as Acceptance & Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to facilitate meaningful and transformative experiences for my clients.
