J.Lyons, MA, QMHP-R, CHW
I am a Qualified Mental Health Professional and licensed Community Health Worker dedicated to providing trauma-informed treatment and integrated healthcare services for individuals, couples, families, adolescents, and children. With a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (Physiological Psychology focus) and a Master of Arts in Sociology from Idaho State University, my expertise lies in addressing mental health challenges through a coaching approach, employing techniques such as cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral, strengths-based, and solution-focused therapy.
Philosophy and Approach:
My coaching approach, rooted in person-centered therapy, challenges ingrained cognitive patterns and promotes personal growth. I view clients as unique individuals with specific strengths and barriers, crafting personalized treatment plans to facilitate healing and happiness. Utilizing a biopsychosocial model, I emphasize the interconnectedness of biological, psychological, and socio-environmental factors in fostering overall wellness. By addressing conflicting thoughts and beliefs, I aim to alleviate mental health strains and anxiety, influencing intentions, behaviors, and life outcomes.
Formal Education and Training:
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice, both from Idaho State University, with a focus on mental health and addiction comorbidities. My Master’s in Sociology further enhances my understanding of diverse societal factors. As a teaching assistant, I collaborated closely with the Diversity Center, fostering inclusivity. Past experiences include contributions to anti-human trafficking efforts, creating treatment resources for reentering individuals, and extensive work in drug and alcohol inpatient treatment, mental health crisis intervention, and case management services. I am a licensed Community Health Worker in the State of Oregon.
