EVIDENCE-BASED PRACTICES

Inner Peace counseling is committed to using evidence-based practices endorsed by the American Psychological Association to ensure scientific care and clinical excellence. Our evidence-based practices are comprehensive, incorporating common factors known to contribute to efficacious results, such as therapeutic alliance, cultural humility, and clinical expertise.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT evolved from Beck’s (1964) model of mental illness. The CBT model proposes that a person’s perception of a situation influences their corresponding emotional response. Therefore, CBT works by identifying cognitive distortions that stem from core beliefs, maladaptive assumptions, and automatic thoughts. Inner Peace Counseling helps clients to challenge and replace automatic thoughts that trigger unwanted feelings and compensatory behaviors.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT is a complex approach that is integrated to target problems from several angles. There is a large body of evidence confirming the effectiveness of the treatment. Composed of three modalities, DBT uses weekly group skills training sessions, weekly individual therapy, and a clinician team meeting with supervisors. DBT is a very intensive third-wave therapy with roots in cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness techniques. A body of research supports the use of DBT with a variety of clients who are in crisis, such as those with an eating disorder, clinical depression, and borderline personality disorder.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessign (EMDR)

EMDR is the evidence-backed treatment for trauma disorders, including posttraumatic stress disorder. The theory is that individuals with trauma can heal their nervous system when they recall distressing experiences whilst doing bilateral sensory stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movement, or physical stimulation, such as tapping either side of the body. At Inner Peace Counseling, our certified clinicians recommend EMDR therapy – as well as CBT and exposure therapy – for treating clients who present with PTSD.

Neurofeedback (NFB)

Neurofeedback, often referred to as EEG biofeedback or brain wave training, is a type of biofeedback in which individuals are trained to improve their brain function. Extensive research demonstrates its efficacy for specific conditions, such as ADHD and epilepsy, with scientific studies also showing it to be promising for autistic spectrum disorders, anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic pain, addictions, and traumatic brain injury. Neurofeedback (NFB) has its foundation in basic and applied neuroscience, as well as evidence-based clinical practice.
